Hints for Upcoming MvC3 Reveals

I know most of my readers don't even play MvC3, and one of you has never played it; however, there's usually some excitement for possible roster additions. There are definitely MvC3 announcements coming very soon, which may include DLC characters or an entirely upgraded version of the game. Lupinko is known for leaking the original MvC3 roster way before any official reveals. Now, he's back at it, but this time with only subtle hints. Check his Twitter for the latest hints, but here's what he's said so far (exact quotes in bold) and my completely pulled-out-of-thin-air guesses as to what they mean. (I'll add to them over time.)

1) clockw0rk = Strider

2) indeed, getting hype = Hyper MvC3

3) bill cosby = Heathcliff Huxtable = Heathcliff the cat playable, or Ghost Dad, or jello = The Blob

4) wolverine not getting sick = Wolvie gains healing factor [I hope not!]. Is there something/someone in the comics that makes Wolvie sick?

5) 12 donuts = Niitsuma ate 12 donuts for Xmas, significance? 12 new characters?

6) something red = Red Skull (Cap villain in upcoming movie) or Red Arremer

7) car engine = pistons? spark plug? combustion? horsepower?

Famous Online Warrior Maximillian says that Ken and Strider are looking likely, though I'm not sure where he got this info.

Dante's Bold Blocking Technique

EviltoasterofFP posted this interesting video on YouTube. For those that don't know, here's a little background to explain how this works. Dante has what is essentially a special move that makes him jump. It is called Bold Move and is done with any Attack button + Special, like Wolverine's Drill Claw. Dante can cancel many of his normal attacks and even special moves into Bold Move. Bold Move itself can then be canceled into other actions. If you see Dante performing a prolonged combo, he is definitely using Bold Move cancels throughout.

What Eviltoaster shows is that the first five frames of Bold Move can be canceled into a block. Since commands can be input during any super-freeze, Dante can Bold-cancel whatever he's doing by pressing A+S while the screen is frozen. He can hold back throughout, blocking any super that would hit within five frames. This is similar to what most characters can do if they are about to be caught in a super while dashing. Since they cannot block while dashing, they simply hold up-back during the freeze, canceling the dash into a jump, allowing them to instantly air-block.

Though the video makes it seem as if Dante cannot use Bold-block against certain hypers, he actually can. The examples given show only "no-brainer" scenarios, wherein you can hold back and tap A+S during the super-freeze. Something like Tron's Lunch Rush would require you to time the input a few frames after the super-freeze. It would be more difficult, but certainly not impossible.

Jill Tactics

Pulsr posted this video showing a bunch of Jill's dirty tricks. I knew that she had at least a bit of the proverbial juice, but some of this stuff looks borderline overpowered.

See You in July!

America owns Marvel! Does Daigo even stand a chance? I don't think so, but I welcome the challenge.

Never Give Up: MvC3 Edition

The last 1:30 of this video is awe-inspiring. We've all seen X-Factor comebacks, but what happens when X-Factor runs out? Does Ryu even have the tools to open an opponent up with absolutely no life left? Chris G answers these questions and more in this edition of Never Give Up.

Amaterasu's Easy Infinite

Courtesy of Desk, here's a video of Ammy's infinite. It only works on Zero, Taskmaster, Hulk, and Ammy. It's really easy to do and works anywhere on the screen. Simply do F+H for one to five hits then QCB+attack. Depending on the character, you may have to do a certain number of F+H hits (two for Taskmaster) or a specific strength of the QCB attack. Try it out online; that way your opponent isn't able to reach over and punch you.

Shuma Match Play

This is the first tournament match footage I've seen of a Shuma-Gorath player. Notice his use of the super-safe, low-to-the-ground c.M. It gets under projectiles and pulls the opponent in for a full combo. I'd like to see more high level Shuma play, but does he stand up to the game's real powerhouses?

Meet Chris G, Marvel Master

Rumor has it that Chris G has never lost an MvC3 tournament. Whether or not that's true, he made Marn look like he didn't know how to play at last night's Guard Crush. The above video shows him putting Yipes through the wringer at a recent Battlefield Arcadia tournament. The most surprising aspect of Chris G's domination is his team.

While Amaterasu and Wesker are clear standouts, Ryu has generally been considered the worst character in the game. Chris uses his jumping hard into light air tatsu to get in safely, while simultaneously being able to break any air-throw attempts. He's able to do serious damage with Ryu in combos or as a DHC from Wesker or Ammy. During any block-string he can X-Factor cancel into Ryu's quick low short, which leads to a huge combo and, usually, a quick KO of the opponent.

Another tactic that other players rarely use is the simultaneous team hyper combo. Chris uses Wesker's OTG gunshot to lift any floored opponent, then cancels into the team hyper. Ryu's Shinkuu Tatsu holds the opponent in place while Wesker gets all of his hits in. If Ammy is included, Wesker even gets to move again before the combo ends. The team synergy is just amazing; each character's assist has uses in extending the other characters' combos. I expext to see a lot more of Chris G's team in the coming months.

Million-Damage Club: Tron

This is more of a reminder to myself to practice this combo than anything else. Unlike the combo I've been practicing, this one uses no DHCs and gains almost a whole meter. With the DHC trick, I could probably add 600k more damage at the end, but that would usually be a waste. I just wonder if this will work on smaller characters... To the lab!

Final Round XIV: Marn vs Combofiend

This was probably the best match outside of grand finals. Spencer has too much damage potential. Is it time for me to switch out Hulk for Bionic Commando?

Hulk Smash!

So, I've been wanting to post my Hulk combo for a while now, but I've been too busy. Essentially, the "trick" was that I was comboing both into and out of DP+L~M. Though you can get a jump combo, ground bounce, and relaunch afterwards, I found s.M-S to work best because of hitstun scaling. I was never able to get DP+H to connect properly. Trag figured out that it works if you dash after DP+M~L, then jump-cancel the dash into DP+H~H. The combos above utilize this technique and make mine obsolete, so I'll definitely be practicing the new method.

Countering Hidden Missiles

I just wanted to share a quick note on Doom's Hidden Missiles assist. The main problem with it is that some missiles will get past and hit you even when you are punishing Doom with a combo. The solution I have right now is performed thusly: With Sentinel on point, I can tag Doom with s.H or c.H as soon as I see him. Some missiles will already be launched. Dormammu Purification assist will eat up those missiles while they are way up in the air. I can then continue my assault. Hulk can do the same with Gamma Wave and Dormammu assist. Hulk can continue hitting the downed Doom with Gamma Waves for as long as the opponent lets you get away with it. Dormammu can do repeated Purifications in much the same manner as Hulk can with Gamma Wave. Just perform the first one as soon as you see Doom. If a missile or two gets by, you can still hit Doom with more Purifications, even if you take a slight hit.

Haggar Assist + Sentinel + X-Factor = 7-Second KO

It is already obvious that Sentinel is a beast, but did you know that Haggar's assist is amazing?

I started making what I thought would be a short list of things to research and work on. Here is the unabridged stream-of-consciousness mess. In the Lab with MvC3

I'm just taking a moment to let my loyal readers know that I'm aware I've been quiet lately. I've been deep in the lab with MvC3, finding out stuff for my characters that I haven't seen anywhere yet. I've got some nice, practical combos and set-ups with Hulk that do insane damage. I've got Sentinel specific combos that can nearly kill him off of a single instant-overhead hit, using only a level or two. Sadly, I've been mostly in training mode due to the online issues plaguing the game on both XBL and PSN (connection lost, match not found, etc.). I'm going to the GVN Winter Brawl tournament this weekend in Philadelphia, where I'll see how I fare against live opponents (spoiler: probably not so great). After this weekend, I plan to do similar research with basically every character. I'll take some videos of stuff that I find that I haven't seen elsewhere and post them here.

Akuma's Inifinite in MvC3

Try this at home! It's actually really easy to do, although it's also really easy to drop it by missing any one rep.
