Kung Lao Infinite

BringerOfSadness posted this video of a simple Kung Lao infinite. NetherRealm Studios is supposedly patching this out soon, so abuse it while you can!

JJJ's Unorthodox MVC3 Team

Watch live video from Level|Up Live on Justin.tv

As seen at UFGT7, player JJJ (see 24:00) has an interesting Morrigan/Storm/Felicia team. Morrigan and Felicia are often overlooked in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but they do have a lot of potent abilities. Morrigan can cancel any of her specials into flight, then launch another special immediately. This allows her to plaster the screen with projectiles more efficiently than probably any other character. Felicia has several options when rushing down the opponent. She has a command throw, she has a side-switching command-dash, and she has quick overhead specials. In X-Factor, she has a simple loop that can be repeated until the opposing character is KO'd. The real strength of the team is the DHC glitch. From Storm's Elemental Rage super, JJJ can DHC to either Morrigan or Felicia and kill most characters in a single combo.

Another amazing trick JJJ uses is his setup with Morrigan on an entering opponent. I had to rewind the video several times to figure out what was happening: hard fireball, cancel into flight, air medium fireball, land, jump, airdash + call Felicia assist, air command throw. It looks nearly inescapable, regardless of what the entering character does. Of course, Sentinel could just Hard Drive to stay safe, but he's often the exception due to that super's almost total invincibility. Regardless, JJJ reminds us how every character in MVC3 can be deadly.

Skullgirls Previews Coming to a Tourney Near You!

Reverge Labs and Mike Z's upcoming fighting game, Skullgirls, will be demonstrated at East Coast Throwdown and EVO 2011. I got my hands on the game at PAX East, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mike Z is so enthusiastic about showing off the game (and talking about fighting games in general) that I'm definitely looking forward to these demos. When the game was shown at PAX, there were only two playable characters; I assume that the roster will be more robust at these upcoming events. If you go to either of these events, be sure to check the game out. I'll definitely be playing the game and would love to get some matches in.

Spencer 100% Combo

Desk demonstrates a touch-of-death combo with Spencer. It is accomplished without using any meter or X-Factor. I believe Doom's missiles may be required for this, but you could probably vary your third character. I was able to do something similar using Shuma's laser with Spencer.

On a related note, I'm calling my next team right now. Spencer/Ammy/Phoenix. Everyone needs a Phoenix team at this point, and having a point character that doesn't need meter certainly helps her. Ammy would be used for her meter-building assist, as well as her versatility on point. Sorry, Dormammu, but since you can't take advantage of the DHC glitch, you're not as valuable as you once were.

Third Strike Parry & Stun Highlights

Courtesy of TheShend's Twitter, here we have another Third Strike highlight video. The players featured are pulling these feats off during actual matches with other top players. These are the dedicated fighters still playing Third Strike. These are the modern masters of the game. YSB and Hayao play Hugo, Pierrot plays Remy, Sugiyama plays Necro, and TM plays Q. Needless to say, I can't wait for Third Strike: Online Edition, and I believe we'll be hearing a lot more about it within the next month.

Vampire Savior from PowerUp 2011

I finally got around to watching these matches from a few weeks ago, only to realize that I've made a terrible mistake: I've neglected Vampire Savior for too long. It's a hopeless realization, because now is definitely not the time to be picking up an obsolete fighting game. However, watching the game played at a high level (e.g. Kajoq's Lei Lei) makes me realize how exciting and offense-oriented the game is. It seems to be fairly comparable to Third Strike, which may be my favorite fighting game of all time. How did I let this game pass me by?

Long ago, I decided that the Vampire games were not for me. I played very little Darkstalkers and even less Nightwarriors. Within a few games, I came to dislike what I thought was an emphasis on animation over gameplay. It seemed to me that too many moves in the game caused some sort of protracted knockdown accompanied by flames, smoke, or electricity. The pacing of the game was somehow off. When Vampire Savior came around, I barely noticed its existence. The game doesn't have the issues that bothered me in the earlier games, yet I never paid it any mind. As far as fighting games go, I'll now think about Vampire Savior as the one that got away.

See You in July!

America owns Marvel! Does Daigo even stand a chance? I don't think so, but I welcome the challenge.

The MK Kollection that has been rumored for months has finally been announced, and it's coming to PSN and XBLA this summer. Joystiq reports that the collection includes arcade-perfect ports of MK, MK2, and UMK3. The collection will cost a measly $10, and all three games will feature online play.

Update: Soul Calibur V was officially anounced, although it was already known to be in-development. Also announced was a full-length, CG Tekken movie, which is NOT an actual game. Though the movie looks interesting, there were no new game reveals.

EVOGATE: Justin Wong Reprimanded

Justin Wong is being stripped of his PowerUp EVO seeding points as a result of allegedly throwing a match to his good friend (and real-life punch-thrower) Noel Brown. The full story is on SRK. I'll put up video of the match in question as soon as I find it. I watched it on the live stream, and it was blatantly obvious that Justin was not trying to win.

PowerUp 2011 Mystery Tourney Grand Finals

The recent PowerUp fighting game tourney, an official EVO season event, held a mystery game tourney. Each round of the tournament featured a surprise, obscure game. PR Balrog was looking strong throughout the tournament, demonstrating great versatility in the various games. He reached grand finals in the loser's bracket, only to meet with Justin Wong. He beat Justin in Battleship to reset the bracket. The last event in grand finals was Windjammers on Neo Geo arcade hardware. The game is basically an enhanced version of Pong with arcade-style beach volleyball elements. Justin Wong won, leaving PR Rog incredibly salty. He's so salty, in fact, that he has publicly challenged Justin to a Windjammers rematch. He's hoping to get his revenge at UFGT in Chicago later this month. PR Rog will be practicing. Will Justin rise to the challenge? I'm hoping that this epic rematch happens, as it will surely be intense, and we'll get to witness some really high-level Windjammers play.
